Staffmark draws a line in hiring automation: why people still matter at critical moments

Staffmark Group's 2026-09-02 survey shows candidates still want a human touch at key hiring moments, even as they accept more automation.

Staffmark Group's Heart of Work Index, released on 2026-09-02, suggests that candidates are not rejecting technology. They still want a human present at stressful stages such as after applying and before the interview.

The most useful part of the report is that it avoids a simple AI-versus-human split. Instead, it divides hiring into stages: the front end can be automated, while the later stages still need human judgment and reassurance. Technology can speed things up, but people still close the deal.

For interview and recruiting tools, that means automation alone is not enough. The strongest products will know when to step back and preserve a visible human touch.
